Phoenix Ring by Angi-kat Phoenix Ring by Angi-kat
I took a metal sculpting class this semester in college. This is the first major project I made.

It's a phoenix, made entirely out of steel.

The body was made from different segments, which I cut out using a plasma cutter (hence the reason the edges are all wavery. lol), which I then layered and welded together.

The ring was a left over from something that I found in storage, and confiscated to make this. ;)

All that colored stuff in the middle, is glass. On the back of the ring, I've got hooks set that hold it in place. This way, if it ever gets broken, or I want a different kind of glass, I can easily switch it out.

The coloring was done using heat from a welding torch. And let me tell ya, doing the 2nd wing was a bitch! That's why it doesn't look as pretty as the other one.

The whole thing is designed to hang on your wall, though I'm not sure what I'm gonna be able to use that will hold it up! lol

Size:
The rings is about 17in wide
Bird is about 2ft tall

The whole thing weighs about 10lbs

Time Spent:
About 40hrs

Pst, you should go check out my other stuff! =D

Phoenix Ring by ~Angi-kat caught my attention while browsing Artisan Crafts. It suddenly occured to me just how hard it must be to create something with symmetry with metal and flame. It's a wonderful work of art, the kind I wouldn't mind hanging on my wall. ( Featured by ohnojaylo )

Actually, I didn't sell it. Its my first real sculpture, and I didn't want to give it up. :) Though I have had several offers.

Sadly, I can't make more due to my severe lack of equipment. But at least I have it to show off.

I dunno, your work looks pretty good to me. ;) Good luck finding a sculpture class! You'll be surprised how quickly you pick things up once you get started, and you'll be addicted before you know it. =D

He's beautiful! I love the layering of the feathers and the colors. The way his wings frame both his head and his body adds such elegance! What did you use for the eye - it's so vibrant :)

Just a small red marble. =) I drilled a hole so it would rest on the metal, and that allows light to shine through it

I love your choice in color, as the blue is subtly elegant. Excellent fluidity on the wings, too.

Sorry, no. It's the only one I have, and I want to keep ahold of it.

I'm hoping to get my own equipment though and start making more of them. :) So there may be more available some day. ;)

That is beautiful. I'm a phoenix fan, for personal reasons, and I find this amazing and just beautiful. If you ever make more...and i know it's been said already, but I'd so buy one off of you.

Amazing job you've done on it! Kudos.

Wow. This is absolutely gorgeous. I've done some work with metal myself, but nothing I've done can even begin to compare with this.
I'm sure plenty of people want to buy it, but personally I think you should keep it.It's an amazing reminder of all the hard work you put into it, and it's definitely something to be proud of.

Sorry :(
